Please be advised that Austria (along with other European countries) is among the best mapped areas in the world and various other companies have already run their “data improvement” programs here. Open Government Data for the road network and detailed aerial imagery are available and have been used for years.
Has there been an assessment of the need for this project here? I’m asking because proper feedback where the Austria map is still lacking is potentially more valuable to the community than a few edits. Thanks for your announcement post!
I think the one of the few things our maps are lacking is regular maintance of the tags (speed limits, … - but im pretty sure they won’t go there and check each road), especially in rural areas far away from civilisation.
Still even there most roads are drawn - only some land-access-roads might be missing - but every major road should already be in the dataset.
I see pretty few points that can be improved there and also wonder where you want to improve our map.
The only thing I can think of: Landuses, but that’s not what you are stating with this post…

Es wird ja selten so heiß gegessen wie gekocht (in Ländern außerhalb der USA fand man Parkplatzzufahrten im zweistelligen km-Bereich). Kritisch ist, dass wir nicht die Kapazität haben, jede Änderung vor Ort zu prüfen.
Das Mapbox-Team scheint überwiegend aus Osteuropa zu kommen und arbeitet mit dem hauseigenen iD .
Setzt eine Anmeldung bei OSMCha voraus, ihr könnt dann individuelle Filter erstellen (z.B. für ein Bundesland). Es gibt schon einige Edits, kleinere Geometriesachen, die Namensänderung bei Graz sollte jemand ansehen.
@Valeria_Yukovich please forward to the #mapbox_feedback project team that place names shouldn’t be duplicated as street names, especially if the buildings already use addr:place and not addr:street.

Ich hoffe das ist nicht repräsentativ für die Qualität der Bearbeitungen.
Ich habe mir jetzt nicht die Mühe gemacht alle Mapillary Bilder des Abschnitts anzuschauen - aber da hatte ich jetzt nicht unbedingt den Eindruck passende Strassenschilder seien zu erwarten.
Ohne die Situation vor Ort wirklich zu kennen sieht das für mich auf den Bildern eher nach einer Strasse ohne expliziten Namen und dann mit addr:place aus.
Ich habe mal kurz beim bösen Google-Maps geschaut: Da ist die gleiche Abgrenzung des “Strassennamens” zu sehen…

Ich hab meine Erfahrung hier ziemlich ausführlich niedergeschrieben. Aus meiner Sicht hat sich bisher kein negativer Edit abgezeichnet bei meiner Überprüfung.
DIe basemap ist als Quelle frei verwendbar, Überprüfung vor Ort ist natürlich immer gut. Es gibt Fälle bei denen sich der Name am Schild von der basemap unterscheidet (z.B. durch Abkürzungen, Ergänzungen, Umbenennung).
Wenn man verschiedene Namen in einer Straße hat, dann gilt im Normalfall der im ViennaGIS nehme ich an. Die anderen kommen dann als alt_name und old_name rein.
name = was auf dem Schild steht (ground truth, verifizierbar) (ohne Abkürzungen, es sei denn gängige wie Dr., Prof., bzw. wenn sie Teil des offiziellen Namens sind) alt_name = z.B. andere Schreibweise, Bezeichnung (es gibt Straßen mit zwei bis drei unterschiedlichen Schreibweisen auf den Schildern) official_name = wenn abweichend etwas anderes im Straßenverzeichnis steht short_name, old_name etc. sinngemäß
An die Adresskundigen (ich bin aus dem Thema leider schon zu lange weg):
Der fragliche Straßenzug “Mitterlaßnitz” existiert bei Statistik Austria als Straße mit diesem Namen, das Address Helper Plugin liefert place-Adressen. Passt das so?
Ich kann mich nicht mehr erinnern, ob die Pseudostraßennamen bei der Statistik Austria gelistet waren.
Edit: Hat sich erledigt. Ich habe das bei einem mir bekannten Ort verglichen, die Straßen ohne Namen sind bei der Statistik Austria mit dem Ortsnamen erfasst.

Thank you for your recommendations regarding mapping in Austria. While mapping we try to look at the mapping approach that is common for the area where we work, so we will pay attention to what’s accepted in Austria. We also avoid changing other users’ edits without compelling reasons and preceding communication as we respect other mapping activities which can possibly run in the area too.
We are aware that Austria, as well as many other countries in Europe, has an impressive quality of the map which is supported by local community members consistently.
Our main goal is to enrich road coverage where possible to improve the experience of our users in Europe.
We have our own mechanisms for detecting missing roads no matter if it is a rural or urban area. The scope of work in Austria will depend on what these mechanisms bring us. If there is not much to edit, we will not make any excessive edits for sure. Within our work we will align our edits in ambiguous cases with your community and will avoid mapping in cases when there is not enough evidence to provide good quality mapping.
We provide quarterly updates with the results of our mapping activity in the mapping repository, next one will be posted in early July. There you can already find insights on the results of our mapping activity in other European countries. For example, we have added more than 63 km of missing roads in Germany where road coverage is also at a very good level. It was mostly service and residential roads, but we have encountered cases where we could already add new roads to the newly built residential areas, which could definitely improve the road coverage to some extent.
After completing our mapping activity in Austria, the results will be also provided in the repository mentioned above. You will be able to get insights on the situation with missing roads in Austria there.
@wolfbert In order to monitor all of the changes made by our team within the Missing Roads project you can use OSMCha and our project hashtag #mapbox_missing_roads.
