weeklyOSM team - a thread

Hello everyone,

We’ll publish a link to the weeklyOSM in this thread. This way you will always find them nicely bundled together in one area of this forum.

We are a very small group and most of us also work full-time for bread and butter. The production of each issue requires a lot of commitment - that’s why you won’t always see immediate replies here. If you have any questions, please contact us directly at info at weeklyosm dot eu.

We’d love you to submit interesting articles that you have found! Please submit them here (you can log in with your OSM account).

We are also always looking for new volunteers willing to help with writing, translating and proofreading articles. Please let us know if you are interested! Contact via info at weeklyosm dot eu as well, please.

Many greetings and have fun with OSM and our weekly report.

Your weeklyOSM-Team

Thanks for this!

Two ideas:

  • Would it be possible to also include the content of the weekly as part of the message here so people can read directly? It seems a c&p would work perfectly.
  • Would you be interested in embedding the comments to these topics back into the weeklyosm site/post?

Cheers and thanks for the great work

We will consider both proposals.

Cool, please let me know if you need any support or help with any of them if that’s the case! Thanks!

Hi there, is this something that you would like to take on again with the latest posts?

I see there is a RSS importer plugin that might help importing the posts into forum topics from the weeklyosm site, if c&p them each week is too tedious:

thanks, Rubén

w’ll check it.

Hi there,

I am new to this forum but have some thoughts on publishing weeklyOSM here.

First of all, I think it is a great way to inform users and we should definitely integrate this into the workflow of publishing a new weeklyOSM issue. I am not fond of copying the full content here for the following reasons:

  • it will be complex for users to find all comments (website, forum, mastodon…) and responses are needed multiple times
  • it is difficult to manage multiple languages on external sites
  • weeklyOSM already offers an email subscription (with the complete content in all languages, by the way) on their site. Also, there is an RSS feed for each language. With no other site in between, that is even more robust.

So I think the UseCase we are facing is the following:
I as a forum user want to get informed about new weeklyOSM issues bundled together with my other OSM news from the community.

And in my point of view the best way to do so is the integration of a fresh link in this thread with the publishing of each new issue.

As I am new here: is there an API that can be used for this? I managed to create a read-only API key via a third party service of unknown confidence.

This is a test if email is enough as API for our use case.

wonderful, we will give it a try tomorrow

turns out the python library we are using does not set a date header and discourse doesn’t like that. We’ll configure our postfix SMTP server for the rescue until our next try.

By the way, weeklyOSM issue 642 is out
