RFC Oceania community category moderator status 2025

Greetings fellow Oceanian OSMers,

The Oceania category has been running since early November 2022 and we are required to review the status of the category’s moderators at least once a year. The 2024 RFC can be found here.

If you want to know what the guidelines for moderators are then take a look at the Moderator selection criteria. I would like to highlight that if anybody feels that a moderator has stopped fulfilling any of the points in the requirements list at any time, they can flag it privately to the @forums-governance team and do not need to wait for the annual review.

@Diacritic has indicated that he does not wish to continue as a moderator, which leaves this category’s moderators as:

The Oceania category has had 70 active topics over the last year and as a comparison there were 50 on the talk-au mail list. During the year there were three moderator actions, all of which were before July 2024. Given the low level of traffic two moderators appears to be enough. However, the guidelines for new categories requires three moderators “ideally” and we are currently below that.

What we are seeking is any comments on:

  1. Are the moderators fulfilling the requirements of the role? (if you want to respond privately you can do this to @forums-governance)
  2. Is two moderators enough for this category?
  3. Does anybody wish to volunteer as a moderator?

Even if you think two moderators is enough it would be useful to have more to ensure that there is at least one moderator on hand to repond to a flagged topic.

This topic will be open for 7 days.

AFAIK there’s only been 1 issue that really required moderation, & they’re no longer an OSM problem :smiling_imp:, so thank you for your efforts there! :+1:

I’d agree that with not much work required, 2 mod’s are probably sufficient, but a third would probably also be handy just in case one of you decide to drop out of the role?

& no thanks, I’ve already got enough to do!

Thanks for your work and efforts! I think the Oceania forum is well run and moderated. 1. Requirements are more than fulfilled 2. Two are enough, given the low traffic. But this depends on your workload-experience. 3. No thanks

I definitely think you’ve all been doing a good job, including going and adding tags to posts to help others find past discussions, that’s above and beyond in my opinion.

With the lower post rate, two is fine, but if one of you were to leave I’d say a replacement would be needed ASAP.

I’d be happy to help out if more are needed!
