New User Edit Causing a problem

DWG here. I’m looking for someone familiar with the Horsham area. We received a ticket about a new mapper messing up what I presume to be truck routes. The user removed one-way restrictions, valid junctions, and important tags from roads along and including Wimmera Highway. The changeset involved is Changeset: 172778203 | OpenStreetMap.

It would be great if, rather than blocking a new user, someone could review this edit, either correct it or revert it, and provide some guidance to the new mapper?

I’m going to provide a link to this topic for the OP in case they want to add more detail.

Caleb has already done that, but I’ll also chime in. I think we should just go ahead and fix this, then the mapper can reply or continue to make improvements. It looks like they have the right intentions, mostly looks like they are adding dual carriageways but their approach is scorched earth at times, deleting the whole existing way, then adding a new one without keeping the history or any of the existing tags.

Most of their changes were problematic due to:

  1. Shifted the alignment of ways to match Bing, but Bing imagery is misaligned when compared to the GPS traces layer.
  2. highway ways were deleted to be replaced with new ways (history lost)
  3. new ways created from (2) didn’t have all the original tags retained (so things like speed limits were lost)

There were a lot of conflicts when attempting to revert in JOSM so I restored the deleted ways and manually repaired as much as I could, but it’ll need further work to clean up.

In my view it’s not really a DWG issue, the user is very new to OSM, likely didn’t know about imagery alignment, best practice of keeping history, or an awareness of tags beyond the main presets, they aren’t acting malicious or directly editing against community consensus after being informed.

Made another changeset to rectify broken B240 route and incorrect road classification and missing details. Please review.
