around here there are ancient etruscan necropoli that look right like this, with lots of tumuli (burial mounds from the first millennium BC). But it could also be other circular buildings :wink:

actually, looking again, I think yours are smaller, but it seems they’re enclosed by a hedge or fence or palisade or wall , I guess it has to do with either agriculture or religion, could be a cemetery :wink:

By the way it could be very useful to document all thoses object that now you understand, in a OSM wiki page. Why not something like “Eritrea Mapping Guide” (https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Eritrea_Mapping_Guide to create) on the model of North Korea Mapping Guide - OpenStreetMap Wiki (so image with explanation below, this should be enough).

I agree 100 %. I keep on running into these objects in different parts of Ethiopia.
If they appear close to circular buildings (huts) there is a high risk to mix them up with buildings. I have begun to switch to other imagery in order to see which circular structures are a bit more stable. But in the haystack case the colour is a good indicator as well.
