Workflow for invalidating HOTOSM tiles

I’ve been doing HOTOSM projects for a while and I struggle with when to invalidate a tile and when to just make minor edits and validate it. The struggle that I see is the balance between invalidating all of someone’s work and discouraging them vs allowing them to go on thinking the edits are fine when they could be better.

Is it worth it to invalidate a tile that needs more than a few minutes of work so that the person who marked it done gets a notification?

If you’re going to spend more than a couple minutes fixing up some unsquared buildings or buildings with nodes hooked to roads should you invalidate it, then mark it as done again so that someone else can validate it?

Thoughts?

Maybe use changeset discussion comments (in OSM rather than HOT) to encourage them to do things differently / better?
