Hi all, I have found https://whosonfirst.org/ which is a gazetteer—a big database of places. It includes:
Administrative boundaries (countries, cities, neighborhoods, etc.)
Place hierarchies
Names and alternate names
Geographic shapes (polygons)
Concordances (links to OSM, Wikidata, GeoNames, etc.)
They use variety of datasets, some are original, some modified. The list exists here Who’s On First | Docs | Data Licenses
After some investigation, I found out GitHub - whosonfirst-data/whosonfirst-data: Who's On First is a gazetteer of places. and that each dataset has info on attribute level which license is used. Most of the data is CCBY 0 so it is compatible to be used to enrich OSM.
Has anyone used these dataset? It looks ok from my point of view to use some of the data it it is compatible and it is of good quality (for example we have some admin division of the country, which has incompatible license with ODbL, but Whosonfirst has same data with compatible license, I think it is OK to use it.
Any thoughts?
