Where is the option to color GPS tracks based on direction in JOSM?

While editing in the browser w/ iD, GPS tracks are different colors based on direction. I want this same treatment in JOSM, but unfortunately my only options are:

  • Use global settings
  • Single color
  • Velocity
  • GPS fix value
  • GPS reference ID
  • Track date
  • Heat map

I’ve seen other posts mentioning direction as an option (e.g. this post and this wiki page), so I know it’s a thing, but why isn’t it showing up as an option for me, and how do I get it?

I’m using JOSM version 18969 on Debian 12.

iD uses the pre-rendered gps track raster tile layer which you can enable via the imagery menu in JOSM.

It looks like the directional colors are hidden behind Expert mode. I’m not certain why.
