Hello, is this community still active? I am working on a project aiming to map some parts of Tallinn and would like to discuss it with any active community in Estonia.
It’s active, just everybody does their mapping in silence What are you planning to do? Will it be an online kind of thing, or an on-the-ground event?
Understood.
We are focused on wheelchair accessibility in Tallinn.
So we’ll pay close attention to the relevant parameters for that (such as kerb, surface, sidewalk, etc.)
We plan to do this with 10 volunteers that use StreetComplete and follow the Quests we previously established. So on-the-ground.
Who do you mean by “We”? Is there any page on this activity? For what do you need community help?
I’m working with a creative team and collaborating with a mobility company to pull this off. I wanted to ask the community if there was something specific that we should keep in mind, or an area that would be relevant to map. Or any suggestion, to make sure that we do this correctly.
To be fair, all I have done for wheelchair accesibility was marking amenities and building entrances with the wheelchair=*
tag. So this is up to you, I don’t really follow edits to the road network, unlike @qqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqq for example.
But since I live in Tallinn, I could maybe help? Like, come and give a talk about how OSM works, or is being used, that kind of thing. I’d be happy to participate.
I’d be happy to set you up with an OpenSidewalks Tasking Manager project to help you coordinate and track your efforts, if you would like!
Please pardon my tardiness, I was out on vacation. Back to work now.
Thanks for offering your assistance.
@Zverik we found some relevant “Quests” on the Android app StreetComplete, that highlight the relevant parameters for wheelchair users. So to get the word out on that is already extremely helpful. At a further stage we are planning to do something in collaboration with the mobility app.
@UW_Amy_Bordenave tremendously appreciated. Thank you, I would like that if possible
Of course! I’ve created the project: Tallinn, Estonia - Wheelchair Accessibility
I suggest starting with remote mapping, making sure the basic features you’re interested in (footway=sidewalk
, barrier=kerb
, footway=crossing
…) are mapped from aerial imagery in the area you want to cover with on-the-ground surveys which can then add more information using StreetComplete.
I included the entirety of Tallinn, but of course there is no obligation on your part to map all of it! Feel free to use this to help you organize however you see fit.
Let me know if you have any questions, and happy mapping!
