What licence tagging option on upload to wiki?

Hi all

Quick question on licensing tags in the wiki.

I have a photo licensed CC BY-NC-ND 4.0. The licence came by email to me in response to a request to the company that owns the photo.

I don’t see this licence as an option on the dropdown in the upload process. I’m hesitant to select ‘Copyrighted but freely usable given the copyright holder is credited’ as ‘freely usable’ suggests wider rights.

More generally, I regularly use images from geograph.org.uk and these are usually licensed under CC BY-SA 2.0. Again not an option on upload as it only offers CC BY-SA 4.0. Which should I choose?

Separately, should I watermark the photo “CC BY-NC-ND 4.0”, or is the wikimedia gallery good enough protection for the rightsholder?

As far as I can judge, this seems to the the wrong option because it does not include NC and ND clauses.

Basically, the licensing process works as follows: There is a range of templates, one for each license. All of them are categorised into https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Category:Media_license_templates. When uploading a media file, one creates a media description page in the wiki named “File:”. It features the summary a.k.a. description, the chosen license template, and assigned categories. The most common license templates are included in https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/MediaWiki:Licenses meaning they will be shown on the upload screen. If you want to have any other license, you can simply choose “None selected” and transclude the relevant template by using wiki markup in the summary. https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Template:Geograph seems to be suitable for your case.

Not sure how you want to “protect” the image using this kind of watermark. It is basically just an embarrassment for a company to display a CC-BY-NC… picture externally. Please note that Wikimedia does not allow NC and ND licensing as you can read at https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Choosing_a_license#Common_license_conditions.
