Vector tiles on OSMF hardware - And JOSM rendering of tile layers?

following pnorman thread Vector tiles on OSMF hardware

Could vector tiles be rendered easily in JOSM? Could we expect soon that vector tiles be rendered in JOSM ?

This is the new trend ! and It would be great to access the various vectortiles and have OSM tiles adapted to various languages. :grinning:

JOSM already supports vector tiles as background imagery source!

You’ll notice though, that it supports only a subset of the style language. So one would need to compose a map style specifically for JOSM’s limited options.

Yep. A subset of the style specification is supported in JOSM. If someone has a specific usecase, I can look into adding the requisite bits of the style specification. The style support in JOSM is converting the style to mapcss, so some things might not be (easily) possible.

When I wrote the initial version, I had a specific usecase in mind; Mapillary vector tiles.
That works.
I don’t recall seeing feature requests/bug reports asking for additional functionality for styling vector tiles, so my assumption is that it is not used by the community. That drastically reduces the priority of adding additional functionality.
