Umap - Insert a PNG Map

Hello,
As a researcher, I’d like to integrate a geological map that’s available as four PNG images, each about 150 MB. This geological map is based on an existing map, so I shouldn’t have any trouble positioning it on OSM. However, I’d like to know whether there’s a way to reduce this PNG map by keeping only the contours/linework—or whether I should manually separate the specific contours I’m interested in.
Thanks in advance,
Clément

Welcome to the forum.

150 MB is quite large, why don’t you just create a http/https link these images?

Thank you !

The idea is to give to the reader the possibility to deal with the map and with the image.

To be honest with you, I can select the several shapes displayed on my 600MB maps but the human feeling is to look for the straightest and less-effort point !

Thank you in advance,
Clément Genty

Looks to me it should also be possible to share the .png via Umap itself but the .png needs to be hosted somewhere else, not sure how good of a user experience that will give.

Thank you.

For you, there is now way for UMap to automatically get the outlines of the map, instead of upload it directly ?

For example, there is no way to have automatically the red outline of this PNG ?

The red outline seems to correspond to the administrative boundary of Cognac as mapped in OpenStreetMap. If what you are trying to do is display something that is already in the OSM database there are various ways to do that.

But you originally talked about a geological map - I’m not sure where the geology comes in here?

Hi Alan,

This is just an example.
