Trust on moderation of LATAM

Please allow me to chime in here, just to clarify some things and being me one involved in some of those posts.

This is indeed an example of conflict of interests, whose none of their admins has been willing to resolve by themselves. Without a commitment of the parties involved, there’s not much to be do from the OSM Latam community. The last they can do if reach the Local Chapters and Communities Working group, which one of their goals is Seeking ways to help local communities build cohesion.

These are not conflicting groups. OSM Latam: Juntas is, sort of speaking, a working group of the OSM Latam group, just as OSM Latam: Notas, OSM Latam Traducción, OSM Latam: Wiki and OSM Latam: Redes sociales, each one of them dedicated to a single purporse (stated by their name).

The fact that they are created on Telegram and not on this tool (or another OSM-owned) is due to the need to ease support and exchange of ideas to users. Unfortunately, Telegram has been so far the best tool to quickly help other user, and until there’s not a UI-friendly tool to replace it, people will continue onboarding there. I believe Mattermost and federated services like Matrix could supply this, but regular user will be difficult to get onboard there, just as it’s happening with this Discourse instance.

Actually, the survey itself ask about possible ways on how to support the OSM Community, being sponsorship one of those activities, as well as organization and community building, from an autonomy perspective.

This survey has been planning from several months ago, not at all related to whichever criticism from days before your post.

As the (until today) Latam moderator author of that post, I am saying that Hotosm wants to know your opinion on how to support the regional community. Please read carefully the post and do not assume anything in advance. You are criticizing the tool that literally ask for your opinion on the matter you’re criticizing (Hotosm interventionism, as far as I can identify).

But none of this matter today, because as you have already read, I understand that all LATAM moderators are dimiting from their role, as the re-validation process opens to select new moderators, just as the Moderator Selection Criteria stated. You’re invited to provide your thoughts there and propose new moderators.

There’s also an open call to propose candidates to moderate a future General category in Spanish, in line with that spirit of transparency.
