I’m Kiran, and I’m excited to share a Challenge Announcement on behalf of our colleague David. We have two engaging project introduced by TomTom, focusing on enhancing the accuracy of inland water bodies and second is about correcting Too Short Highways in the OSM database of Canada.
Experienced mappers are invited to validate and correct polygons and multipolygons to enhance OpenStreetMap, contributing to more precise maps and supporting environmental monitoring efforts. In the second challenge, let’s address short highway segments and junctions, we can correct intersections and potential navigation issues. Your valuable contributions will improve navigation accuracy, enhance road data analysis, and create a cleaner, more visually appealing map. Let’s work together to ensure a seamless and accurate mapping experience for all.
The challenge is open to the public, allowing anyone interested to review and contribute to the tasks.
Can you comment on whether your tooling has solved the issues that mappers in Germany identified with this challenge last week, in particular suggesting to “fix” “too-short highways” that had different tags or relation memberships? See Deutschland - Korrigiere zu kurze Highways | Germany - Correct Too Short Highways - #2 by skyper (you can see a partial machine translation of the post using the “globe” icon at the bottom)
I commented in English even earlier: Belgium - Correct Too Short Highways - #2 by skyper
A week has past but relations are still not mentioned at all in the challenge description. I tried my best but now, I feel like you at TomTom do not want to listen.
@ahirek, @sbaido: Please make all your challenges regarding “Correct Too Short Highways” invisible for now and fix the issues, instead of offering these broken challenges for more countries. Do not include any way where the adjacent does not have identical tags and memberships with identical role.
@ahirek: Please, explain why you did post another challenge for the USA instead of answering the question first. Please, tell us how will you make sure that this does not happen again in the future.
We sincerely apologize for any issues and confusion we may have caused. We will temporarily stop creating new challenges and hide the existing ones while we work on addressing the feedback we’ve received. We realize that resolving these concerns requires more time and analysis than initially anticipated. To prevent data loss, we will improve our challenge descriptions moving forward. Our commitment to adding value to OSM remains strong, as it has been for a long time. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we take the necessary steps to rectify the situation.
Be careful with short highways because here in Quebec, all the motorways and boulevards in the Montreal region have been split at each change in number of lanes, transitions and turn lanes, so they will trigger false positives. Please refrain from merging them because it will reduce the amount of information. Thanks!
