Nearby we have a hill that is very often used for sledding by children and families. Is it correct to simply slap a node with playground=sledding on it? It is not near a playground (which “usually” should be the case for the tag according to the wiki).
piste:type=sled has some usage, you can add a way or an area (with area=yes). See e.g. Way: Soldier Field Sledding Hill (1237907727) | OpenStreetMap

As in that example and this one, you can also tag the hill itself as a natural=peak
, because technically that tag is for hills too.

Thanks a lot for the replies! I looked a bit at taginfo and tagged it like I wrote in the OP, because there were some similarly tagged cases in my area. I thought it looked to unofficial to be a piste and is unfortunately not at the peak of the hill.
I suspect a good proportion of the 1170km of the piste:type=sled to be informal. You can go on with it , this is of high interest for winter sports-enthusiasts parents !
