Tagging Block Addresses

Hey.

  1. Near my home the addresses have been distributed like this: houses on one side of Road A have the address 3/n, the other side have the address 4/n. There are also some random 171/n lurking around among 4/n buildings. Should I move the 3, 4, and 171 to addr:block?
  2. In another place, the address look like “D-141” where D signifies city block. Is it OK, if I tag it as addr:housenumber=D-141 instead of addr:housenumber=141;addr:block=D?

addr:block=* is an unusual address key for most of us. Some idea of what region/country you’re working with would make this question easier to understand.

Initial thought is to look up Key:addr:* - OpenStreetMap Wiki , which doesn’t offer much definitive guidance on your question;
another way is to look at how other mappers tackled this elsewhere on the campus, in the town or somewhere in the vicinity.
Knowing where you’re mapping would help.

A third option is to look at tags in Search results | OpenStreetMap Taginfo , both the keys and the values tabs can point you in the right direction.

Always good to post your chosen solution here, so it can be used to clarify the wiki…

I am talking about places in Delhi, India.

Usually, the tag place=city_block is used for the city block itself. When specifying an address, the name of the city block is entered in the addr:place field, while the house number is given accordingly in addr:housenumber.
