Right tag for a boat launch?

I looked through the tags for anything obvious but I can’t find the proper one for what we would call a “boat launch”. This is an area, normally paved with concrete, that extends down from a road into the water so you can launch small and medium-sized boats. It’s not a dock, this is distinct.

See leisure=slipway https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:leisure%3Dslipway

Perfect, thanks!

Is there a way to have an alias so that if someone searches for boat launch it will return slipway?

I seem to be doing this wrong.

When I made the area using the poly tool it asked me for its type and presents a list of popular selections on the left. This list does not contain slipway. When I used Search for slipway, it gave me selections for things like self-serve laundry and hydroelectric power station. I selected wet/dry dock as the closest one.

What’s odd, is that the first time I tried it I managed to draw both the area and another single point. When the point was selected, slipway DID appear as a possible selection.

Here is the edit: 102434821 Can someone tell me what I did wrong?

Anyone know what’s going on?

The wiki tells you that. Check the “How to map” part again.

Hi, a slipway is a linear feature, not an area as per:- https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:leisure%3Dslipway which explains things quite well. The slipway should be connected to the highway network. If you draw a linear way in the iD editor and look to tag it slipway you’ll be presented with options for tagging slipway.

Your area (Way: McKenzie Lake boat launch (926897452)) in changeset: 102434821 is not drawn as a slipway.
