Hello @GA_Kevin and thank you for this attempt to bring more efficient communication around proposals.
I wonder how it would acceptable and possible to automate the digest of status changes, seen from wiki categories corresponding to proposal statuses.
Providing the mailing list with a weekly e-mail with all status changes would reduce the hassle for proponents and ensure minimum reliable and up to date information for people expecting emails.
It could work for many information channels and free people’s mind.
I’m sure there’s a way, all the best.
You can also view a live list of changes to the |status=
, |draftStartDate=
, |rfcStartDate=
, |voteStartDate=
, or |voteEndDate=
parameter on a feature proposal page, thanks to a custom edit tag that the wiki administrators set up via the “abuse” filter system.
MediaWiki generates an RSS feed of these changes. Some integrations use this feed, like OSMUS Slack’s #feed-proposals channel. Unfortunately, each feed entry contains a full diff of the page’s source code, which can be cryptic for most people. The operations team is experimenting with a MediaWiki extension that would enable us to provide a more customized feed.
That’s a valid point, thank you for having reminded me this
Consider reaching out to the weeklyOSM editors to make sure they have a system set up for following RfCs and votes. I’m not sure if they follow the forum as actively as the mailing lists. weeklyOSM reaches a lot of mappers who don’t generally follow discussions anywhere. It also serves as a reminder to folks who tuned out the RfC while it was taking place either here or on the mailing lists. You can often see a wave of votes come in after a new issue gets posted on Sundays.
Oh I think they do - I think that little gets past them!
Finally someone had went the extra mile to formulate it! I think it should have been done more than 10 years ago already, so fully support the proposal.
