Hi, 3 years ago I wrote this proposal, but no one commented until today.
Over the past few years, people have already started using the proposed tags.
So, if anyone is interested in culverts, feel free to join the discussion on the wiki.
Please, cross post this announcement on the tagging mailing list on my behalf by sending an email to: tagging@openstreetmap.orgMaybe that is why everybody is happy with the proposed values. Most of them are already documented in the wiki and in use.

open_top is Thé answer to a long held question, albeit is it still a culvert/tunnel when open topside? We have many here, countless really, most though slightly wider/deeper and part of the road side gully/drain system which ive been tagging with a street wide grate cover, i.e. perpendicular to traffic, in cast iron.
