Railway operator app railmap.gl

Added now.

I am shutting down this site. I hoped it would help me find a job, but it doesn’t look like there are WebGL/three.js jobs anymore.

Thatā€˜s sad. Are the costs prohibitively high to leave it running?

aww I am sorry to hear that I enjoyed updating all the rail operators with the OSM updates I done over the years, I was gonna suggest stuff to add.

I plan to add an operator layer to the OpenRailwayMap (vector) in issue Operator layer Ā· Issue #219 Ā· hiddewie/OpenRailwayMap-vector Ā· GitHub. It has not been implemented yet, but I am planning to build it. I will take inspiration from railmap.gl because the visualization of operator-related railway data is very nice.

Yeah, pretty much. I may set it up to run cheaper…

Thanks. I would love to hear your ideas.

I send you a message with some stuff hope it helps

Ohh this is sweet! I do a lot of cleanup and mapping refinements for railroads and other data in my local area and places I’ve been to. I was trying to update OpenRailMaps a long time ago with new signal and operator details but its all but dead and seeing very little improvements if any.

Have you seen the vector based fork of OpenRailwayMap https://openrailwaymap.app ? If you add minimal signal tags, ex:

railway=signal
railway:signal:main=US:main

It will show up on the map as an unknown signal until icons are made and added to the repository, but they will at least show up, unlike the raster version of OpenRailwayMap which isn’t very maintained
