It seems that the user @eerib has imported data in order to improve the quality of railway geometry.
I am not questioning the geometry data, it is 100 times better than the data from CanVec that was initially there.
They have simply deleted all the pre-existing data that was there and simply used the data from the new source.
I would also like to point out that there is no source=* tag on the changeset, so we cannot verify details on the data source.
I am bringing this up to the community’s attention so that a more experienced user can fix the import by splicing the new geometry on the old data in order to keep the history and data.
Thank you wolfy1339 for pointing this out and gathering the wider community for help rectifying the situation. If someone would like to fill in the missing data please do so. If someone would instead prefer to revert then please do so.
The data source is the BC Government Open Data Catalogue - Railway Track Line dataset. This dataset is licensed under Open Government Licence - Canada 2.0 - a compatible dataset.
I will not make another contribution of this kind towards railways in the future. Instead I will reach out to the railway community to allow experts within the community to handle the issues.
I will say that the changeset comment and post is an unfair mischaracterization of the situation. I did not “simply deleted all the pre-existing data”. I retained as much data as possible using the replace geometry and replace membership functions in JOSM and reached out to the railway community through the OSM Discord to help with filling in the missing data, which was specific to the main lines through the yards and newly added lines. One issue that arose during my contributions was the fact that the pre-existing geometry had numerous significant long standing errors, which led to confusion with regards to the main line through the railyards.
Thank you for anyone that helps to rectify this situation.
