This is just a preliminary topic in order to keep it transparent. I’m planning to add/update street art works from different websites into OSM where it’s missing. Some of the example might include the data from Grenoble Street Art Festival (Carte des œuvres | Street Art Fest Grenoble-Alpes) - here I already obtained the permission and documented in wiki correspondingly. I’m in progress of discussion with some other data sources as well.
Reason - there are very few street art works (comparing to what’s on the ground) already present in OSM. The ones which are present very often lack important metadata (artist_name, start_date, name of the work etc…) and there are excellent data sources which would help street art enthusiasts all over the world.
Proposed total size of the changes - ~100 to ~60000 of nodes, depending on the dataset(s). The changes of course will be split into smaller chunks by location and/or size to make it manageable.
The idea is to not have just one-time import, but to have possibility to rerun it to keep the data up-to-date with the datasource, but will see whether it’s possible, again, depending on the actual datasets.
So far I have permissions from listed Grenoble Street Art festival, see their points on the map on the link above. Others are under discussion.
I received permission from the project to use their data for OSM
That’s a good question, but generally I will not (because the data can be in many locations which is physically impossible for a person to check all of them. If something is next to my location, then I can go and check of course.
I trust the datasources (they usually have photos of the works, so the given work is for sure real and not imaginary non-existing object), but of course street art scene is often changing and noone can guarantee everything is still present on the ground. So using check_date is probably the best way here, e.g. I can set it to the date when the work was created and then it can be verified on the ground e.g. with StreetComplete or other tools. Do you have better suggestions here?
