Proposal: Mini CV and manifest for board candidates

Hi there everybody,
it’s election season again. I sometimes feel that it is difficult for the more casual members to decide who to elect to the board. The official set of question are sometimes overwhelming and it is difficult to compare the candidates.

Hence, I would like propose a new format to present the candidates, their background (educational, professional), their OSM contributions and intentions, like a “mini CV + mini manifesto”. It should be a quick overview to make it more attractive for members to vote.

I have drafted a proposal on the “discussion page” of my profile:
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/User_talk:Sakudo

I myself, I am a little hesistant if this is a good idea: I like the decenntralised approach of OSM and we should not unnecessarily “bureaucratize” OSM. On the other hand, OSM is a precious organisation and our “heads” should dispose of some qualifications to support it. Furthermore, it is important to get the members to vote and indeed, this type of presentation would help me.

May be, we can have a discussion here about the question if this “mini CV + mini manifesto” is a good thing or not.

If we tend to agree that it is desirable, we could agree on a format and I would invite you to modify the proposal on my talk page and have a discusison about the actual format there.

Cheers, sakudo

Not a bad concept at all!

I agree! Not a bad concept at all!

I think it is essential that the candidate/our board member is a contributor to OSM; and basing my experience on the board, there are skills that would be great for the board to have

  • communications
  • leadership
  • management
  • fundraising/partnership

to name a few. The professional experience tab can take this into account.

Thanks for the suggestion!
