Platform section sign value

I wanted to tag the sections for a platform which is missing them, at least in OSM, but also on bahnhof.de.

I’ve looked at platform_section_sign | Keys | OpenStreetMap Taginfo but also came across platform_section_sign_value | Keys | OpenStreetMap Taginfo which seems to be about equal in usage.
The wiki however doesn’t mention the *_value variant to tag the actually signed letter.

Then there’s also Tag:public_transport=platform_section_sign - OpenStreetMap Wiki which I don’t know how to interpret in Germany. To me it seems like the signs are always posted in the middle of the section, but if that’s not the case everywhere then that isn’t redundant after all.

Which sites render this?
Which of those use only OSM data (bahnhof.de doesn’t solely)?

Also, since it’s related;

For S-Bahn (hybrid suburban–urban rail), sometimes they use shorter trains, which (depending on the station) stop at the front, back or some place in the middle, this is usually marked.
Is railway:platform:section a main(?) tag? Where would I draw another way, would that be sort of a subset of the platform-edge way?

However; the wiki says railway:platform:section should only be used on nodes, not on ways. However, what I’m picturing as useful here is knowing the start and end, not the middle.
Furthermore, could I tag the start/end signs themselves too? i.e.
public_transport=platform_section_sign
platform_section_sign=Kurzzug Anfang (short-train start)
or platform_section_sign=Kurzzug Ende (short-train end)?

OpenStationMap - OpenStreetMap Wiki shows the tag platform_section_sign_value. There it has the same meaning as platform_section_sign. It seems to me however that both of these tags would be better of going into ref=*. As the public_transport=platform_section_sign already specifies what this is.

The tag railway=platform_marker does it this way and also supports platform_edge:ref which to me seems like a much better way of doing this.

The only tag I could find for ways is railway=platform_section

railway:platform:section is used on the edge of a platform for some reason I don’t see the point in it.

I am not aware of any software which renders any of these tags.

Hm, openstationmap seems to not exist anymore.

And since the things you linked are in french I’m not surprised I didn’t find them.

I’ll have to look at them again some other time
