Hi everyone,
I am starting this topic because of an Osmose check that seems to be giving a false-positive in my opinion. The check is #5010, “ortograph”, as visible in my Osmose stats page:
I got these names by entering the shops in a ground survey and asking them for the correct writing according to their logotypes. This is also the name you can read on their windows and facades.
Is it safe to mark the check as fixed, or should I do something about it?
Thanks in advance for your help!
~ Lorenzo
You can click on the E link to get a more precise description of the report. Here it says “Name with uppercase”. The associated guideline is to use “local capitalisation rules” (not business-preferred capitalisation).
Looking at these three names, I definitely would not use all-uppercase for them in France, but Italy may have different rules.
If for any reason these names are correct, the proper way to remove them from the list is to mark them as false-positive, not fixed.
It’s Osmose, so just ignore it. The front page of the site says “In no case Osmose-QA should provide you the absolute right way to map, always keep a critical eye.”. If you believe what you’ve done is correct, then you are correct and Osmose is wrong.
While I agree with osmose not being always correct, in these cases I think they could be written with normal case. Similar questions also arise in Germany from time to time, often tagging going back and forth. I would not use all capital case unless it is an abbreviation (e.g. UN and not Un), while for shop names it is just a „trick“ to make the name stand out more, so we should not give them the supposed advantage their marketing department is dreaming of
That’s a very clever point I did not think about!
Yes, all shops on a street should look the same on the map, and only those that have very short names should be put in SCREAMING CASE. I agree with your suggestion, so I will rename those shops whose Wikidata brand, if any, is not all uppercase.
