In regard to this, just spotted Secretary Report - April 2025 - HackMD in the Weekly News.
Congratulations @Minh_Nguyen!
At least I was, but I expect a lot of other people too, were waiting for an official announcement to congratulate @Minh_Nguyen.
I’m fairly sure that random hackmd pads don’t count as that.
Or has @weeklyOSM for a brief moment actually rediscovered journalism and is presenting us a previously unreported scoop that they are critically reporting on? No, that is even less likely.
Anyway, congratulations.
Thank you, you’re all too kind. weeklyOSM got the scoop! There’s a blog post drafted up too, but hot type printing presses take a little time to warm up, so consider this an announcement about an announcement.
News reported it as:
" Héctor Ochoa Ortiz, Secretary of the OpenStreetMap Foundation (OSMF) Board, has announced the appointment of Minh Nguyễn as the organisation’s new Core Software Development Facilitator."
Seems to be official?
You should click on the ‘has announced’ link.
oh come on that was unnecessary…
It’s a public statement made by the OSMF Secretary (albeit in an unlikely place, with no verification of who actually posted it), so obviously it’s the sort of “news” that should be included in a volunteer-produced weekly email.
Anyway, congrats to Minh (who has been somewhat adjacent to that role for some time now)!
Congratulations @Minh_Nguyen! Well deserved indeed!
For a media outlet, the downside of scooping a breaking news story is missing the rest of the story as it unfolds. Meet the new Core Software Development Facilitator | OpenStreetMap Blog has as many first-person singular pronouns as you’ll ever see from me in this role. As noted in that post, communication will be a big part of what I do, including here on this forum. If you ever have any specific questions or concerns that aren’t appropriate for the usual public forum or issue trackers, you can reach me any time at minh@[the OSMF domain].
I submitted that HackMD scoop to WeeklyOSM after it was released in a certain OSMF public board meeting. Maybe next time I should emphasize more on how I obtained that information.
In this case, the name of Héctor Ortiz is the part of the report that endoresement the “official” that he wants… and I think it is sufficient and shows we are up to date.
Congratulations to the new white hat of the OSMF…
If from California, great times are coming… bonne chance
I was just making fun of how the board handled the announcement and that weekly OSM jumped on it (contrary to the normal “vermischtes” nature of the publication without any original research) - a secretaries report that is addressed to the community instead of the board, and for all purposes is an informal blog post, but that isn’t actually posted as a blog post*, but on a private hackmd instance likely referenced during the board meeting … and then gets included in the minutes of the board meeting, but long after the meeting has happened (such being the nature of minutes).
Just weird.
* its not that I don’t think the OSMF should communicate more just that this didn’t cut it.
Hi everyone,
We wanted to announce it with the blog post Minh shared just before (Meet the new Core Software Development Facilitator | OpenStreetMap Blog), but the public board meeting came a bit earlier than the blog post being finished, so we mentioned it there, as we have been reporting regularly on the status of the STF-funded positions, and other recent or upcoming events.
WeeklyOSM people are very fast indeed
Keine Sorge, Simon - das mit dem Journalismus üben die bei @weeklyOSM noch. Sind halt eben sowas wie Praktikanten. Bis dahin müssen halt zufällig gefundene Infos herhalten.
edit typo: Pratikaten → Praktikanten … sorry
