Openstreetmap.org DDoS attack 11 July 2024

Momentarily it’s not even read only… in ID edit mode the background is loaded but no data. In JOSM can’t fetch or upload.

openstreetmap.org is also returning an error message:

This website is under heavy load (queue full)

We’re sorry, too many people are accessing this website at the same time. We’re working on this problem. Please try again later.

Not currently reachable at all.

Replication(s) are also no longer running …

https://planet.openstreetmap.org/replication/minute/

Furthermore https://planet.openstreetmap.org/replication/minute/state.txt

I also can’t reach the website at all, it gives me a time-out error.

It is probably a good idea not to log out of the forum, as it is currently not possible to log in.

Website is back.
ID Editor seems to timeout.

Sometimes online for a few seconds, then offline again.

I tried a couple times before posting. But you are right, now it’s down again…

This is no longer related to technical maintenace. This is due to a DDoS attack

seems to work again.

Read yes and log in, but do not edit.

That explains why access is on-and-off on that site i.e. why it sometimes work and why it doesn’t (certainly a coincidence it happened right after maintenance).

One potential problem is a changeset I made[1] which I managed to open (through JOSM) but never uploaded anything (not even duplicate data which happened to me at times) and it doesn’t seem to be properly registered on OSM either.

Edit: Okay, I managed to upload the changeset but I still got lucky with the upload.
