Dear all
This paper caught my attention about academic works related power modeling.
Technische Universität Berlin and Università di Pisa joined their effort to evaluate the quality level of OSM data related to power networks against official sources like ENTSO-E.
This paper provides the background, methodology and validation for constructing a representation of the European high-voltage grid, including and above 200 kV, based on public data provided by OpenStreetMap. The model-independent grid dataset is published under the Open Data Commons Open Database (ODbL 1.0) licence and can be used for large-scale electricity as well as energy system modelling.
It shows that countless efforts to describe power grids lead to a more relevant ability to model and simulate improvements that should be done to tackle energy transition.
It’s not about leaving official data in favour of openstreetmap as the last often processes and uses open data from operators. OpenStreetMap has provided an innovative technique to produce, process and render geographical data and is now considered as a relevant data source for industrial usage.
