nodes in OSM files

Is it possible to see how many objects share a node from the osm files? That is without scanning the whole file for the node id.

No. There is no such information.

@UffeKousgaard:

Not sure if this is where you are after, but
this command [http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/node/(node](http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/node/(node) number) returns of which ways the nods is part.

Hugo

No, this is not possible. Ways and relations contain elements with ref attributes for their nodes, but nodes do not “know” who references them. You have to go through the whole .osm file at least once to count the number of references to a node.

No, it is the OSM file itself I am processing.
