Nigeria Floods Activation - data for flood responders

Hi all, HOT is responding to the flooding that recently occured in Maiduguri, Nigeria.

More than 1,000,000 people have been displaced across NE Nigeria, according to Associated Press.

MSF and the Nigerian Red Cross are both responding and in need of data. We are also collaborating with the Nigerian mapping community, Humanitarian Mappers, as they have significant experience mapping in the city.

MSF already had a tasking manager project ongoing for Maiduguri, so we added a priority area to indicate where the flood-affected zones were (thanks to UNOSAT’s analysis).

We are now launching the first TM project, focusing on the Gwange 1 neighbourhood HOT Tasking Manager - any help from mappers would be much appreciated.

We are prioritising neighbourhoods using the following criteria:

  • If they intersect the flood extent analysed by UNOSAT
  • If they contain one of the IDP camps located by @Kazeem and Humanitarian Mappers
  • If they intersect priority points/areas shared by Nigerian Red Cross
  • If they don’t intersect with areas mapped (or already being mapped) by volunteers

The wiki page is under construction, but the basic elements are there.

Please let us know if you have comments or questions.
