Multiple node for bus stop

I am in area where public transport is not in best setup. In this place for example aroundabout on the round 4 bus stops plus one illegal (I kept it unsaved). All same of same name.

So better keep it as really on ground like this (4 stops) or simplify/merge them into 1 node in middle of roundabout island?

I am not so familiar with transport mapping. I am confused because 2nd looks easier to map and convenient for bus routing algorithm to handle one stop for transit. While the 1st is more informative to people where is the actual bus stop postision (not all stop have signs).

It’s common to have bus stops on both sides of the road. As the wiki page says “The highway=bus_stop tag is widely used on a node off to one side of the highway way”.

Once you move the highway=bus_stop nodes off the highway itself things will make more sense. See here as an example.

For that, there is also Tag:public_transport=stop_position - OpenStreetMap Wiki to indicate the position where the bus comes to a halt.

In addition, highway=bus_stop indicates where the passengers wait (whether there are signs or not is a different matter). As they usually don’t wait on the street itself (cause it’s dangerous), they are placed on one side of the road.

Even if the stops have the same name, they are internally (in the agency’s data sheets) represented with different IDs. Mapping the platforms separately allows for better referencing, while a single node in the middle of the roundabout corresponds to exactly nothing.
Don’t tag for (your understanding of) the router.
