With the Standard view, the following text doesn’t appear: “École Normale Supérieure de Lyon - Site Jacques Monod” concerning
at any zoom level. There is no such problem with MapQuest Open. What is the cause of this problem?
Note that for
the text appears with both the Standard and the MapQuest Open views.
It would help if you posted a link to the location, but I assume you mean here: http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=45.72978&lon=4.82709&zoom=17&layers=M
I think the name isn’t shown on the Standard view because there isn’t enough space on the map. The map would usually show the name in the middle of the university area, but there is also a street there (Allee d’Italie). So the street name is shown instead. Where there is two things in the about the same place, the map rendering software (in this case Mapnik) will have to decide which to show. This will depend on the stylesheet and settings for this software, and may vary on different zoom levels. I notice at zoom level 15 the university name is shown.
Maybe this could be considered a bug, if so you can report it on Trac. Add a ticket for the component “mapnik”. https://trac.openstreetmap.org/
