A courteous announcement to those in Michigan or who edit/improve our (originally TIGER) US rail data, or both: during the recent “can’t write to OSM’s API” I have tap-tapped on Michigan/Railroads - OpenStreetMap Wiki to update it much closer to alpha status (a fairly complete inventory of all rail in the state, as well as at least a good start on TIGER Review).
Now remaining are about 18 (minor, I believe Class III) railroads listed in the “Unsorted railroads” section which could use some wiki-love: building a table of them (now stubbed) that includes their TIGER Review status and (to-be-created) route=railway
relations. Offered are a hopefully-helpful Overpass Turbo link (geocoded to Michigan) and a link to OpenRailwayMap (with a suggestion to perform a “pan and scan” strategy) to look around Michigan’s rail network: Mainline, Branch, and becoming-better-tagged Industrial, spurs and service tracks. After these relatively easy updates, this wiki can be declared alpha!
If I could do this without even being able to edit OSM (well, I did just now upload a TIGER Reviewed Petoskey Branch and a few fixes to Flint Subdivision), you, too, can tap-tap both this wiki and our map (data) to becoming alpha status and beyond! Thank you in advance to all who edit and improve OSM rail in USA.
