Hello OpenStreetMap Finland,
I would like to bring your attention to three important MapRoulette challenges that can add value to improve OpenStreetMap:
This challenge addresses buildings that intersect with others on the same layer. Intersecting buildings can:
- Make the map look messy and hard to read
- Cause visual inconsistencies
- Make it difficult to see the real layout of an area
Tasks were generated based on spatial comparison of buildings in OSM.
This challenge focuses on validating and correcting roads with conflicting highway and construction tags. Outdated construction tags can lead to:
- Incorrect rendering of completed roads
- Exclusion from navigation and routing applications
- Reduced usability of OSM data
Worth to note:
- A highway under construction should have tags: construction=* and highway=construction
- When construction is complete, remove the construction=* tag and update highway=* to the appropriate classification
- Check edit history and consult community/external sources as needed.
This challenge aims to validate and fix educational objects (amenity=school/college/university) lacking a name=* tag. Proper naming of educational facilities is crucial for:
- Quick identification and location on the map
- Location-based services
- Routing applications
- Emergency response planning
Tasks were generated using an Overpass Turbo query to identify educational objects without name=* tags at the country level.
For all MapRoulette challenges, some false positives may occur, so feel free to mark them as “Not an Issue” when appropriate.
Thank you
Salim, TomTom
