Los Angeles Researcher - Removing Buildings Destroyed by Wildfires

Hello,

I am a researcher in Los Angeles working in the recent wildfire areas and I was hoping to remove/edit destroyed structures but I am (rapidly) reaching the rate limit. Is there a moderator I could talk to that could give me some kind of elevated access to make these changes?

Thanks,
Tyler

Hello to OpenStreetMap!

Its awesome you want to add to OpenStreetMap.
But please do not simply delete Objects as there might be various aerial imagery available where the houses still are and there might be mappers who map from home who could be enter the houses again if they don’t know about the fires.
Please us the Lifecycle prefix - OpenStreetMap Wiki instead.

Luckily, there are restraints so we were able to catch this quickly

If you want, i can revert the changeset you made already so you can change it correctly

I understand, though I do see that the neighborhood to the East of my changes had removed all buildings that had been destroyed, so I was following that precedent.

Would the correct course of action be to add the “destroyed:*” prefix to these structures?

Yes, destroyed:*=* is the correct one. I reverted already, so you can go.

Unfortunate. Can you link to the region so we/I can take a look? Maybe the changeset where the other stuff was deleted needs a comment as well or the lifecycle prefix was used as well so its just not rendered anymore? Hard to tell without knowing where

Also, you might want to wait some minutes, maybe some else will come in with a different opinion

EDIT: Also, i looked into the east at the objects around Way: 422296681 | OpenStreetMap - there you see how they have done it. With destroyed:*=* and additionally damage:event=2025 California wildfires and damage:type=fire

Might be worth talking with rene78 | OpenStreetMap and 6dmndUwtBJW8 | OpenStreetMap as they edited this building, for example?

Hope this helps

I just noticed that the buildings are indeed not fully removed, but tagged such that they don’t appear anymore. That is really good to know. I will follow the example of the ones done so far!

Thank you for your help!
