I’ve been now casually adding edits to the map for nearly two years as well as relying on OSM for navigation on foot, bicycle and car. I am looking to improve both my understanding of the data structures, use of mapping hardware and other technical knowledge to improve map accuracy and completeness of places I visit, mostly Cheshire, Lancashire and North Wales.
I am interested in improving pedestrian and cycling infrastructure, but also very happy to do addresses, points of interest and really anything of use. I’ve been using a combination of StreetComplete, EveryDoor, JOSM, GPS tracing and aerial imagery.
My reading of the OSMUK page is that there’s no regular catch ups, though perhaps I am wrong on this as I remember map chats mentioned at the AGM. I could of course use the forum as it does seem very effective, but I thought perhaps teaming up with someone who lives or just knows my area would be more effective at my stage.
This post is a really good start!
I’ve done some mapping in Morecombe, but only when visiting my aunt. I can think of one active mapper that might still be in the area, I’ll drop him a message and point here.
Contacting active/interested mappers can be tricky if there’s not existing events because communication/social-media options are so abundant. I’ve not done it for a while but I am planning to (for my new home of Dundee) and will document the process so others can attempt to replicate.
The first one was much more psychogeography/exploring than contributing to OpenStreetMap, but it was a fun day out. @Jez_Nicholson will happily talk OSM-stuff to you and I’m sure other people will too.
Thanks, I saw the Joy Diversion and I am even in Salford that very day, but attending a wedding. It’s not my wedding though so sure to mark a culvert if I see one.
I mostly map around South Cumbria/North Lancashire. There’s several active mappers in North Lancs. We’ve not had a meet up for a long time, so are probably due another. Feel free to message me via my OSM profile if you want to discuss anything
Hi there! I saw your post and would love to connect. I’m currently looking for a mapping mentor/buddy as well, and I think it would be great to share knowledge and experiences. If you’re interested in collaborating or sharing tips, feel free to reach out. Looking forward to hearing from you!
