København – Oslo ferry

Hi there,

I think that there are a few mapping problems with the København – Oslo ferry but I don’t want to edit it myself for lack of regional knowledge.

It appears that the ferry has two legs, one from København to Frederikshavn, and one on from there to Oslo. However both these segments are tagged with the name “København – Oslo” which is misleading:

Also, both legs have a duration of 16:30 which, I presume, is the duration of the whole trip and not just one leg. And the leg that connects Frederikshavn with Oslo has a tiny bit split off in Way: ‪Frederikshavn – Oslo‬ (‪1101018143‬) | OpenStreetMap - a 250 meter long stretch of ferry route that claims to have a travel time of 8:30

As I said, I don’t know enough of those ferries to tackle that (I just accidentally noticed a GraphHopper import moaning about the “implausibly low” speed on the 250 meter segment), but maybe someone can set it right.

Cheers
Frederik

A further complication is that, as far as I know, the ferry no longer makes port in Frederikshavn for a large part of the year.

In the US, there is a ferry route that used to be mapped as a sequence of two ways for technical reasons. This caused issues with calculating the duration for routing, and in the end, we chose to combine them into a single way to fix these issues.

For routers to calculate duration properly, there should be three ways representing ferry routes: Copenhagen—Oslo, Copenhagen—Frederikshavn and Frederikshavn—Oslo. These can be tagged with seasonal=* and opening_hours=* as needed.
