LS Sorry, I have to do this in English, mein Deutch reicht nicht!
In die Niederlände we are going to change course. We had taken network=rcn to mean bicycle node network, rwn for walking node network and so on.
We now recognise this causes several problems, zum Beispiel:
- We couldn’t tag regular (chain-of-ways) routes any more, you just didn’t see them any more because of the many node routes.
- They were still rendered as regional routes, i.e. at a much higher zoomlevel than we want
- Our country can get by with 3 ranges local, national and international for regular routes, but other countries really miss the regional level.
- It looks like node networks too are emerging a local, regional and national level.
It is now widely recognised that node networks need to be separated from other types of network.
Our solution is the following:
**We will add a tag network:type=node_network to all the nodes, node2node routes and node netwerk relations. Nothing else needs to change. **
Then rcn can really mean regional cycling route again. If the network:type=node_network tag is also present, the route is a node route.
In addition, lcn node_networks can be defined. I have already seen some in Germany.
We did some testing already. After the addition of the tag, nothing changes for current data users. But once the tagging is done, they will have the opportunity to separate node networks and regular routes for rendering, export, checking tools and planning/routing tools. Tagging presets for JOSM are being made.
This is a generic solution for node networks for all modes of transport and all geographical ranges. It leaves current tagging intact. I think it essentially does the same job as cycle_network=* but it is applicable to all node networks.
Note that this solution also leaves room for other types of network configurations/setups. E.g. we already spotted colour-choice networks, and maybe regular linear routes could be separated from the (super)routes containing loads of variants, shortcuts, extra loops etcetera. But that’s for later.
We are in contact with waymarkedtrails and vmarc, they both have stated that this would help them and they will render/process it once it’s documented.
We plan to do just that very soon.
I hope this helps?
