Filtering out individual categories is laborious. Is there an easier solution?

As far as I know there is nothing like a language filter available to the users. On the contrary the attempt in this forum is to lower the importance of the use of different languages by offering the translation tool so that everybody may take part in discussions about issues of interest to them without being hindered by lack of language skills.
Again the filtering by catagories in your preferences is quite simple and once it is done you don’t need to touch it again so I’d say this is not a big issue.
