Impossible to remove reaction (after some time)

What and who is affected by this issue/request?

Removal of reaction. Everybody.

Where on the platform does it happen?

Messages

How do we replicate the issue?

Add a reaction. Wait some hours. Try to remove it. (seems only possible for some minutes)

Expected behavior (i.e. solution)

Removal should be possible - at least by help of mods

Other Comments

Why is this a problem (to me)?
Because while scrolling on mobile it easily happens that a reaction is placed unwantedly. If not paying attention later you are not able to remove it.

I asked the mods for help, but they could not remove it either and asked me to open a ticket here.

Interesting, I could imagine this being a problem if the post’s author subsequently edits the post to something which you wouldn’t be as inclined to like anymore.

Topic kick.
It should be possible to remove a reaction.
Usually when I am mistaken I’d like to remove my reaction altogether or replace it by a singe point, like this: .
Even that is not possible.
Please add the option to remove a reaction, make it possible for 10 minutes or so. And after that make it possible to change the reaction to a single point.
Thanks.

It is possible to remove a reaction, by clicking the same like button that you used to add the reaction. There’s a time limit, which is being discussed here, but the limit is already measured in hours, not minutes.

Is it? My question is about removing the text without the - minimum of 10 characters - condition. (and possibly there are more conditions)
Simply replace the text by a single . and be done with it.

I’m in the wrong thread :face_with_thermometer:

On a general note, if you have a problem with Discourse, you can try having a look here to see if (a) it’s deliberate functionality, (b) it’s a known problem or (c) it’s never been reported.

Personally I can think of many issues with the forum’s UI but I can completely understand why the OSMF admins don’t want to start maintaining a separate fork of some forum software independently. Life’s just too short for that. If it turns out that there’s a configurable option that would make Discourse work better, then do raise it here so that people can talk about it.

Ah, this thread is about emoji reactions, whereas you’re asking about replies. Sorry for the confusion.

Specifically in this case the reason behind the limit is discussed here:

and details of how to adjust the time delay are here:

You can delete your message, however. This leaves a message saying your message was deleted. Eventually users are unable to see what your message originally said.

And right after deletion you can undelete them.
I tested that yesterday or so and eventually got the message ā€œYou deleted too much. Now you have to wait 12 hours before you can use this function againā€ or similar.

So today I want to undelete the messages I deleted yesterday and can’t find them anymore. They are gone forever.
Very handy all of this :japanese_goblin:
