How to tag a separate place for video conferencing calls inside library?

Hey,

Many Finnish Libraries have separate rooms where one can talk in phone or to have video conferencing calls without interrupting others in the same area.

They often look like something like this:

Do we yet have a tag for something like this?

The closest match I was able to find was: community_centre=meeting_room and that is indeed suitable for video conferencing but it’s definitely much bigger thing compared to what I had in mind.

There are couple of places which have meeting_room=* with values of meeting_room=yes or meeting_room=4

I understand this is not yet a widely known aspect.

I would not call this object a “room” (I am no native speaker).

It looks similar to amenity=photo_booth.

just for the size, otherwise there a no similarities.

In design (but not in function) it looks closest to me to the indoor smoking areas that Finnish pubs have (or used to have).

If no-one can find a previous example of the same thing, I’d just make a new tag value up.

meeting_room= should not be used for these, at least when on its own. There are actual rooms for multiple people to meet together in person in libraries.
Such booths exists in stations and malls now. Not only for conferencing, but also general work as long as you want (if you can pay for it), studying (again, if a student can afford it), and resting/napping, even meditation or something. (At the same time, there are really larger ones close to a “meeting room” that fit several people)
As they are branded in a product line together with =coworking / =coworking_space , they could be eg =working_booth (as how they are usually advertised) to be more generic than for teleconferencing. Or even =rented_booth for all purposes outside work, and =personal_booth for free ones.
On the other hand, it might be =working_space + working_space=booth to cover other working spaces. There are businesses providing rooms or partitions for working, alongside or without open co-working spaces, that doesn’t quite fit =coworking / =coworking_space .
A further complication is there are karaoke booths, when =karaoke_box already exists. This needs to be considered for such booths in general. The method depends on whether function or form should be prioritized.

  • Form-first
    • Feature: amenity=personal_booth + personal_booth=telecommunication
    • Attribute: personal_booth=telecommunication
  • Function-first
    • Attribute only
      • Feature: amenity= ? / =working_space + ? / working_space= =booth
      • Attribute: ? / working_space= =booth
    • Double feature
      • Feature
        • Single one: amenity= ? / =working_space + man_made=personal_booth
        • Multiple
          • Polygon / point & type=site : amenity= ? / =working_space
          • Points/polygons: man_made=personal_booth
      • Attribute: personal_booth=yes

Do you want to micromap the location of the meeting pod within the library, or are you looking for a tag that you can put on the amenity=library to say that it has pods like this where you can have meetings?

Just looking at TI & spotted service:private_video_booth | Keys | OpenStreetMap Taginfo! Used 5 times, with 4 of them being “No”!

Another possibility, although a bit of a stretch is Key:video - OpenStreetMap Wiki which says “Indicates whether or not a communication feature like a public telephone supports and offers video calls”

I’m more interested in the functionality than the form so having a private space for working or for phone calls even if the main amenity is a silent office or a library.

I’m also interested in indoor mapping but I assume its not too complicated to find one inside most buildings so attaching this info as extra field to the main amenity is more important for me currently.

So my needs are basically for finding a place (free or paid) to use a laptop without bothering others.

The ”working booth” term resonates for me. Thanks for all great input so far :muscle:

If you have a look around on Overpass, you’ll quickly see that the tag seems to be used for, uh, a different kind of video booth. With the emphasis on private.

I today tried to work in one of these booths and they are “silent working areas”.

They are soundproof so that people can work in silence.

I think this should probably be reflected in the new tag too to also help people who are more sensitive to the sounds. Maybe it should be a combination of tags instead.
