How to subdivide a building

Hello all,

The building in this changeset, Changeset: 168884480 | OpenStreetMap, is in fact two buildings sharing an adjoining wall – structurally it may be two walls that back onto each other – and an extension on the car park end. They house 4 separate business, the co-op supermarket, N Y Wines and N Y Wine Bar, and Upholstery Specialists. It seems that the map treats the whole thing as the supermarket with the other businesses inside.

It is not a big issue, but it is wrong. I tried to update it by shrinking the co-op and creating another two adjoining buildings. Although I carefully laid the shared boundaries on top of each other, the map gave me a warning that the buildings were overlapping.

Is there a way to resolve the issue?

Many thanks,
G

Which editor are you using. With JOSM you could simply have split the building. I would re-use the nodes where the buildings touch so that the wall is guaranteed to not overlap itself.

You probably just moved the corners close together. If you mark the corners you should be able to join them - thats should be an extra command.

In JOSM you could simply add another point in the middle, mark the two points and press ALT-X to split the building on the two points. And its properly joined together.

But @BCNorwich seems to have solved this already  Way History: ‪Co-op Food‬ (‪616021763‬) | OpenStreetMap Maybe you can check it out now.
