I apologise if I’m missing something. I have searched and I have looked at the wiki page.
I’m trying to create an overpass query to return all speed cameras in the UK regardless of type.
The best I can get is
8801 nodes
4603 displayed
I feel I’m missing something as there are around 7000 cameras in the UK. I appreciate this is a community driven forum so some may be missing but I feel the issue is actually my overpass query.
Part of the problem I suspect is that not all of the fixed speed camera locations have been added to OSM. A quick check somewhere I expect to be cameras finds this, but nothing in OSM.
Another issue (tilting the numbers in the other direction) is that some mobile camera locations have been added to OSM with tags that are covered by your query, and not tagged in such a way that makes them easy to exclude. I’ve no idea whether you’d want to include mobile speed camera locations or not, of course.
This is all entirely separate to your overpass query; I suspect that there might be a bit of double-counting going on in there.
Ideally I’d like to include all types of cameras. Fixed, Average, Mobile etc.
I appreciate there are going to be missing cameras from a commnuity driven database, but my returned results seems far less than what I would expect and I’m not sure if it’s my query not being comprehensive enough or a limit on cameras.
I think I need to remove the man made references from my query (I have noticed the issue there)
I’m just not sure if there’s anything I can add to my query to bring a higher result or not.
With any query like this on OSM data, I’d suggest trying to do a small area first; one where you can get a definitive list of “official” data to compare with. That’ll help to rule out “category errors” and may give you ideas as to what other tags to look for (although your query seems quite comprehensive).
I had started with a smaller area, but upon expanding to cover the whole UK, I simply cant get close to the number of speed cameras I’d expect to see. Maybe the database simply doesnt have them if you feel it’s arleady comprehensive, which is a shame. I had hoped I’d missed something.
