How to map a dead end street which is widened, but for parking, not for turning?

Please look at the above images. It is a dead-end street which is widened compared to the main road from which you enter it, but it is not widened to allow turning; instead, it has parking spaces in front of the houses.

These parking places have not been legally designated as the owners’ spaces, though it is very impolite to park there if you are not living there or have not been invited.

I am wondering how to map a street like that.

We can map just the street, but then the widening of the road is not displayed on the map.

We can separately map the parking in front of houses with an area and use amenity=parking, but that doesn’t feel quite right since the parking is not in any way separated from the road.

Should the whole dead-end street be mapped as a parking lot?

I am wondering what is the preferred way of mapping this. Thanks.

I’d just mark that as amenity=parkingand from your description possibly parking-street_side although from image 1 just looks like a highway=service+service=parking_aisle through a parking=surface to me.

If you really wanted to you could use the Street parking scheme on the road itself, but I see that as more for normal roads. That road looks like it only exists for parking access.

Who is allowed to park there can be dealt with with an access tag.

This is not a parking_aisle but a residential road down to the very end with houses along both sides. I would map the road down to the end and add the parking spaces on both sides which are quite clearly marked and tag them as amenity=parking + parking=street_side + orientation=perpendicular + capacity=*.

Additionally I can see large gaps in between the marked parking spaces which can easily serve as turning space. I would choose the one closest to the roads end and tag it as turning point.

Why not map them as the driveways they appear to be?

Sure, if there are driveways branching off the road they could be mapped as well.

Thanks for your thoughts. I don’t think it makes sense to map every single driveway which exists on the streets as I don’t usually see that mapped and most houses have a driveway. However, it seems to me that the best way to map this is as a residental street with amenity=parking applied to the parking on the side.
