How to find a User

Hello,
I have just signed up to OSM, and to the Community. When I signed up to OSM I put in my full name as “Tony Maynard-Smith” but was told this was already taken. I have not encountered this problem before, so would like to find this user to see if it is actually another person, or whether I already signed up some time ago and have forgotten about it.

Which is indeed taken.
