At our small nonprofit, we’re trying to use uMap to show our afforestation sites on our website. Our site supports two languages (German & English). The map shows data for each site that is visible as a polygon. To avoid providing the data and polygons for each language, we’ve done the following:
- Create one map on uMap for each language
- Add the polygons and data for each site
- Create a template that formats the data for all popups
- Export the map, import it into the map for the other language
- Change the template for that language
Here’s what that looks like on our website and on uMap: English, German.
It works, but we’re running into some issues:
- When importing the map from the original language, the second language’s title, description and templates are replaced. Is it possible to import only one layer?
- The whole workflow is a bit cumbersome and prone to errors. Do you know a better approach?
- Not sure if this has anything to do with the approach, but when today I added a pin, three others disappeared for no apparent reason. My coworker had a similar problem, where polygons disappeared when she added a new one. Is this a known issue, or just some fluke?
