Though not there, I have been working in the Greater Orlando Metro Area. I have OSM set to warn me about everything except Help Me requests. I have been fixing issues there. One common issue that I get attached to the lines of areas and barriers is (I think) Landuse=??? or vice versa. I do not recall what ??? is. That tag should only be applied for closed areas is what the warning says. I have been removing those. If that makes a line without any relationship(s), I remove the line.
Oh, I edit in Safari in the browser editor. Today, I had 3 or 4 rather long lines that I removed that tag. Once I did, I spent quite a bit of time removing 3 of the lines without any relationships. Each was long. I still have another to remove. However, I added landuse=area to the line in order to save my changes.
On a related note, can we not have the in browser editor suggest we save our changes when the changes cannot be saved because of the issue or issues?
I have a laptop with a large screen but could not zoom (out) enough to remove the entire line since I was no longer zoomed enough. Does a way exist to be able to delete a line that extends well beyond the edges of the screen several times more? If so, how do I do that? I use a MacBook if that makes a difference. These photos are how I left OSM after adding the tag.
That restriction is imposed by the iD “beginner’s” editor to avoid people deleting lines by mistake. If you use a different editor such as JOSM or Potlatch 3 (or likely any other) you probably won’t find any similar restriction.
Line has no tags
That’s another feature only in iD. It doesn’t understand that ways might have useful features other than tags, such as relation memberships. Again, using a different editor will work around this issue.
Edit: To find landuse lines you can use this overpass query. There are currently only two; one where landuse is a mistagging for surface and the one that you want to get rid of.
boundary=landuse is a bit of an unusual tag. My guess is that a former contributor in this area imported a bunch of parcel data such as this relation (which has essentially no useful OSM tags) and consists of ways such as this one - the boundary=landuse tag on there is not used by anyone and is presumably just to make it obvious for what it is.
I have seen discussions on here saying that user used to be a repeated bespoke tagger here in the southeast. It should be plenty safe to ignore/delete these unused and unrecognized tags.
However, my situation is when I remove the tag, I only have a line. Since mapping a line without any relationship or other formatting causes an Issue, I wish to be able to remove those lines without having to waste time either really shortening and/or cutting the line multiple times. Many but not all of these are in front of other lines with relationships or areas. Some of the areas might have a relationship attached. Other areas might be a parking lot/spot and require no attached relationship.
