How do I manually create/draw a route?

It is a while since I used openmap. I used to be able to simply create/draw a new route manually. I cannot find how to create a new route manually. How do I create/draw a route?

Hi Tony,
reaching out to the forum is a great way to get some answers to your questions as a new mapper (which your description of the problem implies)

But I personally have problems to understand your point. Do you mean you want to create a new path/track/way which is missing in OpenStreetMap?

Use the edit feature in the browser or use dedicated software/apps to do so.

I would recommend getting familiar with the features and use cases first maybe you’ll find your answer in the Beginner’s guide on the OSM Wiki

All the best wishes, Leon

Hi Leon,

Thanks for your reply,

to clarify, I do not want to create any new path/trackway etc.

My aim is to draw a route on the map using the tracks/paths already on the map, with an option to go off track;. to find the length of the route.

When I last used Openmap a few years ago I could do this from the home page.

I maybe using the wrong part of openmap or my expectation is at fault.

I hope this clarifies, and could you please advise me if I am using openmap correctly, or is my aim is not achievable.

Many thanks for your patience.

Tony.

What you’re looking for is route relations: Relation:route - OpenStreetMap Wiki

Basically you assign each path/track/way as a member of the route relation.

Edit: Reread your question: Disregard my comment if you are not trying to add a new route to OSM but simply trying to measure the length of a (custom) route.

I don’t think there is any way to do that on the openstreetmap.org website. I use Qmapshack or Gaia for that.

With facilmap and umap, both based on OpenStreetMap, you can mix segments from a routing engine, and others from manual drawing.

Both can export to gpx and others. Facilmap is probably easier to begin.

Regards.
