How are signs/markers that exist purely for decorative or identification purposes mapped?

It seems that there are several possible ways to map signs that simply name/mark a location, including tourism and advertising tags, and possibly others. Is there a simple unified way of tagging signs that just say what the name of a place is?

Here’s an example I am currently trying to tag.

Others include signs at the entrances of parks or other buildings.

Typically advertising=sign (OSM Wiki)

Okay, I guess I’ll use this. It just seems like a stretch to call a lot of entrance signs “advertising”, but I do understand a key’s name doesn’t always directly correspond with it’s function (though in this case it is accurate to call it “advertising”). Thank you.

Maybe it’s time to add advertising=* to the Counterintuitive keys and values page :stuck_out_tongue:
