How accurate is OSM data?

i'm really curious to know, how can i find out how accurate the info on the osm site is? Is it part of some GIS standard that it has to follow, like google map? or has to apply to some governing body or what?

It’s as accurate as you and other users choose to make it. Only way to find out how accurate is to go out and compare it to the reality for yourself. Otherwise we just trust it to be sufficiently accurate.

In the US much of the data is from the US census data which I believe holds most data but can be inaccurate in position. In Europe there are many cities that are more accurate enough to use.

I’m guessing it’s about as accurate as the data guiding US missiles.
